GM’s $1.99 Gas Offer Could Help HUMMER Sales

h2_gas.jpg

GM is offering California residents a promotion for $1.99 gas that could help move some gas guzzlers of Dealer lots.  The promotion which is available on 11 different models including 4 passenger cars and 7 truck models including the HUMMER H2 and H3.

The promotion goes like this, the automaker will issue monthly prepaid debit cards to reimburse eligible customers the difference between $1.99 a gallon gas and the average price of premium gasoline in California which is determined by a AAA monthly survey.

The promotion covers purchases and leases through July 5 and is being offered on top of any other incentives and rebates on the selected vehicles.

There are no limits on mileage or gasoline price and customers can use the debits cards for whatever they want including aftermarket parts.

According to a GM website a HUMMER H2 driven 15K miles a year, the owner would receive an estimated refund of nearly $2300 over the 12 months.

This promotion seems like a win win for all parties involved even General Motors who would like to move as many HUMMER’s off their lot to make room for 2007 models.  The only unfortunate thing is this program is only available to California residents and nobody else.  I think if GM did this program nationwide it would be a big success but for now if I was a California resident I might be thinking buying a HUMMER as a next purchase would not be a bad idea.
